“I am the supreme authority over my life. I am, always will be and always have been at cause of how I experience my life.” – Shane Krider
So what on earth does this mean? More importantly, how do I apply it to my life for greater results? Today I am going to cover what it means to be the sovereign over your life, what that looks like and how to start making baby steps to achieving that starting today.
Being a sovereign according to the Oxford Dictionary means:
“A supreme ruler – especially a Monarch. Possessing ultimate or extreme power. Very good or effective.”
This is absolutely true for us all. We are only at the effect in life of what we choose to be at the effect of. Have you ever noticed in conversations with some folks that they are always blaming others for their circumstances? It’s either their boss or the economy or the Government or their parents’ – it’s always someone else’s fault that their life is as shitty as it is. And as tough as this is going to sound – it is a choice. You can choose to be the victim or the victor. Truth is, it’s no one else’s fault your life is the way it is. You have created – or chosen not to as the case may be – it precisely the way it is. Your boss didn’t choose your job for you. The Government didn’t force you into the house you live in. Your parents’ didn’t tell you what car to drive (well maybe they did, but you chose to buy the thing). No-one except you chooses the people you hang around with. The absolute truth is that you choose everything in life that you experience. All of it.
Yesterday in Church I listened to Pastor Steve talk about Father’s Day and the stats relating to people who are underachievers in life and how many of them grew up without Fathers. Truth is, I am one of them. Statistically speaking, I am either meant to be in prison or in a lowly paid job, achieved significantly lower grades than my classmates who had their Father present in their household back in school and should be basically in a stinking mood most of the time. If I actually look at who I went to school with, it was those who came from what I would now look back on as having ‘stable homes’ who ended up achieving the least in life. You see it really doesn’t matter about statistics, or whether you grew up in a Father-less household, or what your education is (indeed some people I went to school with ended up with million dollar businesses whilst others are still living in their parents’ homes), what matters is what your attitude is to your life. How you think is in direct proportion to what you create in your life. Have stinking thinking all of the time, then you are not the entrepreneur of your life. Feel empowered and know and understand you are the Creator, then chances are, your life results will reflect that knowing.
So the starting point is to actually believe that it is possible to start crafting your life the way you want it to be. Do you believe it’s possible for you or is it only within the realm of the special, the beautiful, the educated, the popular, people part of ‘that’ religion or ‘that’ race? Do you think that where you grew up determines where you will end up in life? I now live around 800km away from where I grew up – my husband, about 15,000. Most people I went to school with live inside of about 20km from we all grew up. Now I am not making that right or wrong, but what I am saying is that most of them are not living the life they were created to live. I am also not saying that living where you grew up will determine your success or failure. What I am saying is that 98% of the population live lives of quiet desperation and mediocrity. That is not in anyway a judgement – that is the reality. But the best bit is you get to choose. You can choose another career. You can choose to upgrade your life – even if it is by 1% per day. You choose a slightly better car. A slightly better house. You can choose the people you surround yourself with. You CAN!! And you can start that journey today. You can choose to fill your mind with empowerment or overwhelm. Positive or negative.
You can start the process today. Even if it’s heading down to your local library and finding a personal development book that you can borrow for free. That is the absolute best place to start. I have gone from renting a 2 bedroom duplex in suburban Perth to now living on a 50 acre lifestyle property with 10 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms with a tennis court and pool. I used to drive a Holden Barina – now I drive a BMW Z4. I used to holiday in the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia growing up (sometimes Melbourne), now I holiday in Europe every year. Did all of this happen overnight – well of course not. But what I did do was choose slightly better all of the time. It’s baby steps in the right direction and the commitment to trusting in the process that will get you there. If today isn’t the right day to start that journey, then when is? It’s up to you. Choose to be at cause or the effect of life.
