It’s a quirky word. I like to think it is something that runs out of steam fairly quickly, however it is something we rely on every minute of every day. It is the one thing that will either propel us to greatness or keep us in mediocrity. It’s the thing you get from those “ra ra” seminars – come on, you all know what I’m talking about here. We have all been to them. You even get it in some Churches. And how long does it last after you have been at one of these events? You get home all pumped up and ready to change the world. And then what happens? Something comes up that you didn’t quite plan for. A distraction. A problem. And then we are railroaded from what we set about achieving. But the key to understanding the fundamental meaning of motivation lies purely in your why. You will only do something when your why is bigger than your excuses. Your why has to be bigger than the day to day distractions of living. Bigger than your problems. Your why is what motivates you every single minute of every single day. If you just cannot make one more sales call, or mop one more floor, or see one more patient, or send one more e-mail – just stop for a second. Take a few breaths and re-connect yourself with what motivates you. Which is, in effect, your why. That is the ONLY thing that is going to keep you going. What motivates, motivates. Once you really get this and really get into it, you will find a flow of life that you will find truly amazing and miracles will appear from places you could not possibly have believed.
