What does the word “wealth” mean to you?  I’m guessing it’s similar to my previous post on success – it equates to the accumulation of vast sums of money.  This has got to be one of the single biggest misconceptions in the history of humanity I believe.  Ask anyone and what do you think the first thing they will tell you what THEY think wealth mean?  Lots of money.  Period.  Can’t possibly mean anything else can it?  Or can it?

I consider myself extremely wealthy, and yet I don’t have millions of dollars in the bank or in net worth.  “Now hang on a minute there Fiona”, I hear you say.  Stay with me and I’ll help you to understand where I’m coming from here.  I’ve only really learned this simple fact in relatively recent timeframe too surprisingly.  I’ve always been the one pursuing the better thing.  Ask anyone I went to School with and they will confirm that.  I wanted to live in the better city, better state, better house, drive a better car, earn lots of money, travel the world etc etc.  All the things that most people associate with wealth.  But the common denominator really is cash isn’t it?  Or is it?

I know plenty of people who have very little cash but live what I would call very wealthy lives.  I know people who rent and drive old cars who I would term wealthy in other ways.  So what are these “other ways” I hear you ask.  Well, I’m going to explain it how I have learned to understand it.  I hope you will really get this too.  Wealth to me is all areas of life.  It’s love.  It’s relationships.  It’s spirituality (not necessarily religion either).  It’s how you feel about your place in the world.  It’s family.  It’s fulfilment – in whatever endeavour.  It’s fun.  Wealth consists of every facet of life.  You see to be fully and completely wealthy, I think it’s a feeling.  It’s a feeling of having arrived, accomplishment, discernment.  It can be very well compared with gratitude really.  It’s on the same scale.

I have amazing relationships and family around me, I have a close association with my God, I love where I live and I love the services I provide to others.  I love my animals and my cars.  I love my wardrobe.  I love the peace of where I live.  I love my partner and my son unendingly.  I love my place in the world.  So despite the fact I don’t have millions of dollars in the bank or in shares or in superannuation/401K or in equity in property, I feel immensely wealthy.  I feel as though I am enormously lucky to have what I have and experience what I get to experience.  My entire life is full of wealth and abundance – and those two words I do feel go hand in hand.  I have travelled to 10 countries of the world and realize fully that not a huge percentage of the world has seen what I have.  I feel wealthy for that.  I get to choose gourmet foods to eat and feed my soul and body regularly.  That makes me feel enormously wealthy.  I have several gadgets to wash my dishes, my clothes, turn lights on and off and this fosters my strong feelings of wealth.

If you are even in the smallest hint of doubt as to whether or not you are truly wealthy or not, perhaps consider the life of a young girl in a developing country who will have few choices growing up.  Probably no running water.  More than likely no electricity.  No access to education or employment.  Really meditate on that.  And then say you don’t feel wealthy.  You see it has absolutely nothing to do with what your net worth is.  That is just yet another label that western society has placed on ourselves.  “Well only the wealthy live in that suburb.”  Oh really?  How do you know?  For all you know, they could be struggling to pay their gas bill, be behind on their mortgage payments and be completely miserable.  In fact I know of plenty of people with lots of money who are miserable.  That doesn’t equal wealth does it?  Yes money is a part of it, but it does not define a person as being “wealthy”.

Perhaps we need to shift our attitudes away from cash and more towards just being happy where we are right now in this moment and then wealth, gratitude and abundance must surely follow.  And if you are involved in network marketing, this could potentially transform your entire focus.  Instead of wondering where your next pay cheque is coming from, feel wealthy with the organization you have and the Leaders you work with and the sense of satisfaction you get from placing a really great ad.  If you learn to focus more on that then I promise you, the cash will follow in time.  Love to hear your thoughts on this.  Leave me a comment.
