Let’s talk about self-image – that inner mirror we all carry around. You know, the one that quietly dictates how big we dream, how bold we act and how much we’re willing to bet on ourselves.

I was watching a training yesterday around self-image and it really struck a chord with me given that growing up I didn’t exactly hear the most positive of encouragement.  And what I got from that is that my pendulum has swung pretty violently from one end to the other in believing that I’m useless and hopeless to rebelling against pretty much everything and everyone.  Neither of which is particularly useful really.

Here’s the truth: You can have the best business strategy, the most supportive network and all the digital tools in the world.  But if your self-image hasn’t caught up to the woman you’re becoming, you’ll keep hitting an invisible ceiling.  And what I discovered is that it is the one and only reason I’ve been self-sabotaging for years – I’ve spent way too much time living in the past and a big part of that has been staying in the same energy of who I thought I was.  Which was actually incorrect.

Your Self-Image Sets the Temperature of Your Success

Think of self-image like a thermostat. No matter how high you turn up the external heat – more training, more affirmations, more networking – you’ll unconsciously adjust your actions to match what you believe you deserve.  Like autopilot on a plane, you will keep returning back to the path you’re more familiar with and programmed to stay on.

If your inner thermostat is set to “I’m still that corporate woman playing it safe,” you’ll struggle to step fully into “I’m a powerhouse entrepreneur building something extraordinary.”

When your self-image shifts, everything else rises to meet it.  And that, fundamentally is a choice we all make.

The Version of You Who Wins Already Exists

The key isn’t to become someone else – it’s to remember who you’ve always been before the world told you to dim your light, play nice and not rock the boat.  Sound familiar?

That confident, magnetic, unstoppable woman? She’s been there all along – she’s just waiting for you to catch up.

Every time you choose courage over comfort, every time you say “why not me?” instead of “who am I to…?” – your self-image upgrades.  And that upgrade? That’s where the magic happens (don’t you just love that word upgrade?)

How to Strengthen Your Self-Image Daily

Here are a few small but mighty practices to build the self-image that matches your next level:

  1. Speak to yourself like you’d speak to your best friend.
No more inner critic running the show. She’s fired.  Next that monkey chatter that you heard as a child from family, friends’, teachers.  It was all BS!
  2. Act ‘as if’.
Walk, talk and decide like the woman who’s already achieved what you’re aiming for. Your brain – and being – will catch up.
  3. Keep promises to yourself.
Confidence isn’t built from motivation – it’s built from self-trust and in the doing.
  4. Surround yourself with expanders.
Spend time with women who make you think, “If she can do it, so can I.”  The ones who are cheering you on from the sidelines.  That’s the kind of collective we all need!

Your Future Depends on How You See Yourself Today

Success doesn’t start with strategy – it starts with self-perception.  You’ll never outperform the picture you hold of yourself in your mind.

So upgrade and update that image.  See yourself as capable, powerful, radiant and worthy.  Because once you do, life can’t help but rise to match it.  And let’s be honest, it’s the truth of who you really are.
