It’s been a while since I wrote a blog post on this topic and I must admit it’s something that has been continually coming up for me lately – not just personally but inside of my company as well. We have a 6 step formula that we need to follow daily. But I think that until you have organized your time adequately, you simply won’t find the time for what is needed to do daily in order to work your business and for it to produce the results you are looking for. Same goes with fitness or indeed anything worthwhile so I thought I would write a bit of a refresher on the topic.
Firstly, what the hell is a Daily Method Of Operation (or a DMO as it’s more commonly referred to). It’s a schedule basically. It’s what you do and when. Now I know in my previous blog about this topic I actually said that it wasn’t a schedule. Well, I was wrong. Because that is precisely what it is. We can use whatever system is going to work best for us – whether that be paper diary, Google or Outlook calendar or whatever it’s going to be, but it’s still a schedule. And there are certain non-negotiables in your day that you need to be doing if you want to see any sort of success. Especially if you are a parent, are working a full-time job with a business on the side or if you are like me, are an athlete. Talk to any top income earner in any company, any top level athlete or a CEO – they will all have a DMO. Every single one of them. And it’s not just a diary that a VA can manage. It’s so much more than that.
Simon Chan (aka MLMNation) said “there are mandatory things you must do in order to be successful.” Success always leaves clues. And he should have a bit of an idea considering how many top income earners in our industry he has interviewed over the years. He goes on to say that sticking to a DMO supports you in staying focussed, allows you to be more productive creates consistency, prevents overwhelm and fosters duplication. Who doesn’t want all of that??? You can check out his precise DMO here: https://mlmnation.com/mlm-dmo-network-marketing-dmo-970/ I think it gives a pretty clear idea on the activities that deliver momentum in your business. Love that!!
In my particular company, they insist on the 6 daily steps to success being:
- Income producing activities;
- Visualisation and meditation;
- Personal development;
- Mastermind with leaders;
- Cultivating an expectation of leadership;
- Gratitude.
Think about it though, how do you create consistency? You start by forging a new habit. For me, I’m constantly tweaking and making changes to my DMO based on things such as new marketing trends, my kids’ ever-changing commitment schedules (swimming, tennis, music lessons, work etc etc etc). Habits absolutely need to be fluid. But it’s the habit that forges consistency. And you can only focus on a new habit when you have it in writing – either in a diary or on Google or Outlook calendar. You won’t do things that you don’t know what you are meant to be doing. If your marketing strategy is being active in groups, how on earth will you know when is the best time to post in there and respond and what groups if you don’t have it on paper. You cannot remember every single little thing you need to be doing in a day unless you have something to refer to. We all lead incredibly busy lives – busier than ever before. And in business, we need to be organized. Simple as that.
There are many things we really need to be doing daily to support our mental health and wellbeing, our physical bodies, our teams, our families etc etc etc and that is not the post for that. And my previous blog post on this entitled “What on Earth Is A Daily Method Of Operation?” will cover what I believe needs to be covered daily for good balance. But that is also a very personal decision as well. You don’t need anyone telling you what to do and when. You came to this industry for freedom, didn’t you? Not to be told what to do and when. Who the hell needs that? But this particular post I share what I do daily so you can get some ideas.
Now it’s over to you. Start by writing out every single day what you know you need to do and have to do. Pick up and drop off kids’ at school. Prepare meals. Ironing. Washing. Cleaning. Running errands. Marketing. Talking to prospects. Onboarding new team members. For a month, write out every single day what you do but also more importantly what you know you should be doing. Personally I’m not a fan of that word, but you know where I’m coming from. If your company is training you to reach out to 10 people a day and you are not currently doing it, you put that into your DMO. Everytime you are on a training call and you hear something that resonates, put it on your list. At the end of the month, start organizing it into what you are doing and when each day. I use Outlook calendar and I have my entire days’ planned from 5am until 9pm. I colour code things such as appointments, business time, kids’ time, exercise time, dogs time. You get the idea. And then play with it. If something really doesn’t work for you at a particular time, change it up. It’s a fluid process but I tell you what, when you can refer to your calendar and know that it’s got everything in there you need to be doing to succeed, there’s no excuses. I love not having to think about what I am meant to be doing every hour of the day – it’s all laid out for me. It’s like a success formula – I just follow it. And I know that the magic is in the consistency. If I miss things, then my momentum gets upset. And my days’ just flow. Sometimes transitioning from one activity to the next I struggle with and over time if I find it really isn’t working, I change it up. It’s a fluid thing. And that’s life isn’t it?
Hope you’ve found this helpful. If you have any tips or tricks around Daily Method Of Operation, I would love to hear from you. Feel most welcome to share the love.
