This may sound like a strange concept, especially from someone who is a Master Mindfulness Practitioner and always banging on about living in the present moment.  I also believe, however, that having something in the future to be excited about is equally as important for our mental health as being mindful and in the here and now.  Just as important as cleaning up your attitudes to your past as well.  Our relationship to our past, present and future is going to determine how robust our mental health and wellbeing is and the only way to we can be positive about our future is to have something to look forward to.

Goals are definitely a huge part of this but that’s only a part of the story.  Sometimes goals that are big and audacious can actually have the opposite effect to inspiring us – they can actually lead to procrastination and apathy.  It’s not really necessary to have goals as the only thing to look forward to – they are but one piece of the puzzle.  It can in fact be anything at all!  The important thing is to have them in the first place.  And that concludes my blog post for today!  Only joking …

It really doesn’t matter how big or small you see it to be, just so long as it is something that gets you excited.  I’ve listed some below to get your juices flowing:

  1. Catching up with your bestie for a coffee or lunch;
  2. Visiting your favourite Aunt for afternoon tea knowing she has your favourite Chai in her cupboard;
  3. Walking along the beach at sunset where you grew up and have fond memories of;
  4. Driving an old classic car that you’ve had in your shed for years’;
  5. Booking in time with your hairdresser for a scalp treatment and massage;
  6. Making time to visit a State Park that you’ve been meaning to for so long because so many people rave about how amazing the waterfalls are;
  7. Getting that amaaaaazing Remedial Massage from your favourite masseuse;
  8. Hanging out at your favourite sporting event or motorsport event or musical (you get the idea);
  9. Counting down the days’ until the next big family holiday;
  10. Snuggling up in your fave part of your home with a book you’ve been meaning to get around to;
  11. Sitting in front of an open fire with your honey as your date night for this month;
  12. Taking your dog to their absolute fave leash-free park;
  13. Spending an afternoon shopping at your fave boutiques (for me it’s Op Shops);
  14. Taking your kids’ to their fave playground and just watching them laugh and play;
  15. Buying tickets to see your favourite band from the 1980s (I know, I’m showing my age here and yes it was Duran Duran for me).

And yes these are mostly things that get me excited (and lucky you – you just got a more intimate look into what makes me tick).  The point is to give you ideas – substitute bestie for your hubby/wife.  Substitute Aunt for Grandma.  You get it.  The point is that whatever you are super excited about and looking forward to raises your vibration.  And then that builds on itself the more things you have to be excited about and look forward to.  And once you can wake up every single day with at least one thing to look forward to, it will turbo charge your energy to leap out of bed and into your day with enthusiasm enough to keep you going all day long.  The higher your vibrational state, the better manifester you will be.  And success creates success.  Like attracts like.  It’s law – Law of Attraction that is.  And this stuff works!  So the most important thing you can do is continually find things that keep you excited.  And as you can tell, there are many things that don’t require a lot of bucks.  And it absolutely shouldn’t either.  For me, when I travel, it’s just as much about the people I catch up with as it is about the sightseeing (well there’s always an exception to that rule – The Palace of Versailles – but I digress).

So start planning, planning, planning.  Write out a list of things that get you so excited you feel like you’re 10 years’ old again!  And then find a way to make them happen.  Sometimes you have to get particularly creative and that’s perfect.  It’s instructive because it is kind of – in a very gentle way – forcing you to do this.  Because there is nothing more important than maintaining this energy state for as long as you possibly can.  Remembering that when you’re in a bad mood, you’ll attract people and situations that will keep you in that bad mood.  But if you are excited – imagine what you could attract??  Image how awesome your life will look.  And how amazing and exciting is that?  I quite literally cannot wait to see how my days’ unfold now.  I wake up every single day wondering what on earth the Universe/God/Spirit/Energy is going to bestow on me.  What wonders will I see?  Who will cross my path?  How fast will I manifest my dreams?  And this is the important work.  And so much more fun than how am I going to pay my car rego due in a few weeks’ time?  And yes – I’ve been there.  I get it.  And yes, it has taken many, many years’ and much work on me to get to where I am now but where do you think I prefer being?  In that state of lack, disharmony, want and desperation or elation, excitement, enthusiasm and passion?  I’ll let you choose.
