So you’ve just got started in a network marketing business.  And maybe it’s not your first time (and if it isn’t, I pat you on the back for giving it another shot – most wouldn’t).  Or perhaps you’ve been in the industry a while and become a little disillusioned with your own organization’s training options.  So in both examples, you’re a little lost on what the best training source is.  I mean, there are so many out there aren’t there?  And let’s face it, most of them are Americans and many of them are “ra ra rally” type speakers who yell at you and try to convince you to mortgage your house and your first born into enrolling into their ‘Platinum’ Coaching Program or their ‘Inner Circle” Mentoring Program or Mastermind or whatever.

If you’ve been around for long enough, you’ll know that there are just so many and I’m not going to start naming them all.  Just do a Google search and you will find a literal smorgasbord quite willing to convince you that they are the ones that are going to guarantee you’ll make a million dollars in your business singly from their training methods.  ((Sigh))  Believe me, I’ve been there, seen it, heard it, attended their seminars, been yelled at, jumped on chairs at their events, bought their CDs, DVDs, books etc etc etc.  You throw me a name and I’ve probably either got one of their products, spoken with them or met them at a seminar.  Sorry if I’m coming across as just a smidgeon cynical.  I’m not normally to be honest.

So – how do you find a completely objective training program outside of your organization that is going to work best for you (remembering the post I blogged last week entitled “Multi-Level Training is Essential”.)  No matter what your upline or whatever you want to call them says to you, always, always, always seek outside training.  Just to keep your perspective balanced (read more about this on the blog post from last week I just mentioned).

I thought I would just run through a few quick ideas to help you out because it’s bloody well confusing!  As much as I hate to say it, you will have to shop around.  It will be a pain in the ass but well worth the fascination.  You’ll hear it all – every slick sales spiel there is, but hang in there.  Just to go backwards first, you will need to do quite a bit of groundwork via our favourite friend Google.  Do a few searches – network marketing training, home business training – you get the picture.  You’re an entrepreneur – you don’t need help in doing research.  It’s part of the deal.  Read through a few of their websites.

For some of you who are quite intuitive – like me – you’ll get a good feel for who they are from their website.  If it looks like they sell snake oil and you smell a rat – keep looking.  Sometimes you will have to book a call with one of them to talk to them and find out that way.  I did that once.  I really liked the guy’s website and products so I booked a call with the guy.  Seriously, I felt like I was doing a real estate deal he was so high pressure and he made it sound like $15k was nothing in comparison to the value I was going to get.  He just was not going to let me go.  To get him off the phone I told him we were stone broke, had no idea how we were going to make the next mortgage payment and were seriously considering bankruptcy – that’s what it took to get him off the phone (aside from hanging up of course, but that’s not really my style – then again neither is lying.  Lol)  Sometimes you do what you have to do to conduct research.  Just for the record, I didn’t believe a single thing the guy said – thankfully I spoke to him because I was seriously close to parting with $15k because his website was very convincing.  And I’m a very hard sell let me tell you.

If a few of who you are looking at have books, see if your local library have copies.  If not, buy them on Kindle and make sure you get them for less than $10.  Read them.  You’ll definitely get a good feel for them that way too.  A lot of these so called “Gurus” run free events.  Go to them.  Once again, you’ll get a good feel for who they are and how they operate there.  If they do the high pressure “buy my 13 month mentoring program for the bargain basement price of a mere $20k” then I would probably be dubious to be honest.  Anyone that tries to sell their high level product straight out of the gates is an amateur in my books.  Get their CDs if you can but preferably a free audio.  A lot of the time if you get a number of their products, you really will get a good feel for who they are, if they resonate with you and if you feel they will deliver on their promises.  But make sure you don’t spend a fortune and definitely don’t buy their high level program straight out of the gates.  Get their free products, then their low end products first.

Find them on Facebook, Twitter and/or Linked In.  Follow them, like their page etc.  You will work out within a few days if their message is or isn’t for you.  Talk to other networkers outside of your group if you can.  If your company has regular meetings, go along and talk to others outside of your organization.  You don’t have to dig very hard but ask them key questions – particularly those doing really well – about who they listen to.  And if there are networking events in your area – don’t miss that opportunity either.  Find out what others are doing, who they are listening to, what training they plug into.  You may find a common denominator there too.  But I think ultimately you really have to go with your gut.

By the time you have your online research, listened to some audios, checked out a few websites, gone to a few events, read some books/reports etc you really will have a good feel for what is going to resonate with you.  Only you know what you need to learn and completing this degree of investigation will certainly uncover this quite clearly I feel.  So don’t hold back – get started and work out who will speak to you and what you need.  There may be more than one and that’s totally fine but what is important is that you find someone who has already achieved the success you are looking to achieve in network marketing.  Only then will you able to replicate their success.  Leave me your comments on who you listen to – it could help others reading this.
